Geistlich Pharma supports “Mercy Ships” aid organization

Geistlich Pharma has dedicated itself to regenerative medicine – for increased patient quality of life. This Swiss family business is remaining true to this aim with its 2016 annual charitable donation to Mercy Ships. Through hospital ships the aid organization with Swiss roots provides free medical aid to developing countries.

Geistlich Pharma AG specializes in biomaterials for regenerating bones, cartilage and tissue. The company develops and manufactures medical products and medicines to improve quality of life. Mercy Ships, founded in Lausanne in 1978, complements Geistlich Pharma’s corporate philosophy. Mercy Ships is an international humanitarian aid organization dedicated to making free, first-class healthcare provision available to those in developing countries who cannot afford it, through hospital ships. This is what Geistlich Pharma’s annual charitable donation will go to support.

M/V Africa Mercy

On board the world’s biggest, privately operated floating clinic, the “Africa Mercy”, over 400 volunteers from more than 40 countries provide aid in the form of operations, dental treatment and education programs. The ship’s dimensions are impressive: its 152-metre length contains five operating theatres and 84 beds. Every year more than 1,600 volunteers sign up – surgeons, dentists, specialist nurses, health educators, teachers, cooks, sailors, engineers and agricultural experts give their time and skills free of charge. Mercy Ships has already helped more than 2.5 million children and adults to experience a better life.
