Gingival recession is a common occurrence in the anterior region of the mouth which leads to compromised function and esthetics. Therefore, many patients request a solution and meeting their esthetic and functional demands remains a major therapeutic challenge. The coronally advanced flap (CAF) is the first choice of surgical technique in such cases. It results in optimum root coverage, good color blending and recovery of original soft tissue morphology. In most cases, connective tissue grafts (CTG) is used in combination with CAFs. However, the use of grafts in procedures involving root coverage gingival augmentation and aesthetics are always associated with patient morbidity and complications. In order to avoid these complications, new grafts are being developed. Geistlich Fibro-Gide® is the first volume-stable matrix which represents an interesting alterative to connective tissue graft. New knowledge in soft tissue surgical management permits to achieve esthetic coverage in gingival recession with a minimally invasive procedure, combining CAF with Geistlich Fibro-Gide®.
