Equipped for the future thanks to new production building

Geistlich Pharma – a pioneer of regenerative dentistry – has successfully established ten of its twelve global subsidiaries in the past 16 years. Its dynamic development in the international markets has led to the construction of a new production building at its headquarters in Wolhusen. On August 30, the result of this investment amounting to the tens of millions was inaugurated in the presence of numerous guests.

“The production building makes us even more flexible and equips the company for the ever growing demand”, said Paul Note, CEO of Geistlich Pharma. The new building means the production capacity can be expanded and production made more flexible. The project will also help Geistlich accomplish its goal of unifying Research & Development and Production at one site.

Free room in the cleanroom

Geistlich chose IE Life Science, Zurich to be its partner for the forward-looking construction. Decisive for this was the "cleanroom competence" and that this partner could guarantee operational planning and building planning from a single source. The three-storey cleanroom building has around 20 percent of the space available as a reserve for future growth. With the addition of a production building, the company has committed itself to the Wolhusen location. The most important sales markets today are China, the USA, Germany and Brazil.

The ABC of cleanroom design

Good cleanroom design follows the principles of strict separation of people and material streams. It also incorporates hygienic airlocks and prevention of contamination at the interfaces to other building uses. The new facilities underpin Geistlich’s endeavor to provide patients with the highest level of Swiss quality. Paul Note sums it up: “This design not only equips us for the future but it also reduces the time to market of new products without requiring costly building adjustments”.
